Overview

Use number migration when your WhatsApp API number is already registered with another provider and you want to move it to Modawer. Migration keeps the sender identity in place. The migrated number keeps its display name, quality rating, message limits, Official Business Account status, and approved high-quality templates.
Historical chat records do not migrate. Export or back up any conversation history with your current provider before starting.

Before you migrate

RequirementDetails
Destination WABACreate or select the WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) that will receive the number.
Same businessThe number can migrate between WABAs under the same Business Manager account.
Two-step verificationTurn off two-step verification for the phone number before migration.
Display nameThe number display name must already be approved and not currently under review or being changed.
Phone accessThe number must be able to receive the migration verification code by SMS or voice call.
Approved medium and high quality templates can be synchronized during migration. Low quality or unusable templates are not synchronized, and template quality starts fresh after migration.

Turn off two-step verification

If you do not manage the current WABA, ask the current provider or WABA admin to turn off two-step verification for the number.
  1. Open Meta Business settings with an admin Facebook account.
  2. Select the WhatsApp Business Account that currently owns the number.
  3. Open WhatsApp Manager.
  4. Go to Phone numbers.
  5. Select the number you want to migrate.
  6. Open the number settings.
  7. Turn off two-step verification.

Start migration from the portal

  1. Open the Modawer Portal.
  2. Go to your app or workspace settings.
  3. Open the WhatsApp account connection flow.
  4. Choose the option to migrate an existing phone number.
  5. Confirm that two-step verification is turned off.
  6. Enter the phone number you want to migrate.
  7. Verify the number with the SMS or voice code.
  8. Finish the flow and wait for the number status to become connected.
If SMS delivery is unreliable for the number, try voice verification instead.

After migration

  • Confirm the number appears as connected in the portal.
  • Check that approved templates are available.
  • Use the API Playground and select Send WhatsApp Template to generate the raw payload for your templates.
  • Update any application configuration that points to the old provider.
